Futurecom 2019: 5G and Latin America

Nelson Haung

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL — Much to discuss coming out of Futurecom 2019, where members of our LATAM team joined other industry leaders to discuss the latest trends and technologies in telecom.

Futurecom is the only B2B platform in Latin America that addresses the entire spectrum of the telecom industry, from technology and market demands to industrial policies and regulatory issues.

More than 5,000 people attended the four-day event, which looked at local and state investment in new infrastructure. Digital transformation and innovation have become focal points across the region, as telecoms and managed service providers prepare to overhaul legacy infrastructure in preparation for 5G networks.

Latin America is quickly becoming a mobile-first region, highlighting the need for greater broadband speed. At the same time, the number of unique mobile subscribers is expected to increase by 10% over the next five years.

Both of these trends are driving the deployment of 5G networks across the region. However, the number of small cell towers required to power these networks is forcing organizations to re-evaluate how they install and maintain equipment in the field.

In talking to attendees throughout the week, a few themes emerged. First was the need to streamline existing processes, from inventory management to close-out package completion and analysis. Second was the importance of integrating new solutions with existing technology stacks, instead of ripping out what was already in place.

Most field service organizations have already started to digitize their operations, but digitization alone is not enough. The next step for business leaders whether they are trying to win the race to 5G or simply deliver better customer experiences is using technology to streamline dated processes and eliminate operational waste.

At Zinier, our AI-driven field service automation platform is purpose-built to help field service teams work faster, whether it’s supporting technicians with step-by-step mobile workflows or automatically re-assigning technicians to avoid SLA penalties.
